Additional Information
Our program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) which is a requirement for sitting for the certification exam. Our program prepares students for the AHIMA RHIT (Registered Health Information Technology) exam. Passing the RHIT exam leads to national certification which is recognized in all states. There are currently 11 states with laboratory personnel licensure (California, Hawaii, Florida, New York, North Dakota, Tennessee, Louisiana, Nevada, West Virginia, Montana, Georgia). Puerto Rico also has licensure. The components of the law vary state-to-state, but usually includes an annual licensing fee (some are bi-annual), a provision for continuing education, a minimum education and professional competency requirements. For California: Must pass state examination; recognizes some national certification exams. However Certification does not equal licensure in California. In addition to passing the approved certification exam and the online quiz regarding California state law, the applicant must meet California education and training standards in order to be eligible for a California state license. Federal regulations require that these training programs consist of at least 75 hours of training, including at least 16 hours of supervised practical or clinical training. Minnesota requires this minimum. States that require the same training hours and practical/clinical hours we determined our programs met the requirements for licensure in those states. If a state required more our programs did not meet the requirements. Additional requirements such as state-specific examinations, background checks, fees, additional training, experience and coursework, etc. may apply. Our program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care and prepare students to take the Therapist Multiple-Choice (TMC) CRT examination through the National Board for Respiratory care. Most states licensing requirements include the need for students to graduate from a COARC accredited program and pass the TMC CRT. However, there can often be additional requirements before becoming licensed in another state which may include but is not limited to: fees, application, background check and/or additional state exams. Additional Information
There are currently no states or federal requirements that require personal trainers to be licensed or certified. However, most organizations hiring personal trainers will require them to hold a national certification from one of the following certification organizations: National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), or National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). These national certifying agencies are recognized across the United States. However, it is generally the hiring organization that will determine what certification they prefer. This program prepares students to take the NASM-CPT credentialing exam from the National Association of Sports Medicine.
